Kylie Harmes

Kylie trained at the International College of Oriental Medicine – the oldest school of Acupuncture in Europe.  Accredited by the University of Greenwich, London, it is a school renowned for its all encompassing approach to the philosophy and discipline of Chinese medicine and acupuncture.

Along with every other student, Kylie entered this training with a desire to help and to heal using this most ancient method of medical practice.  Throughout the course, clinical practice runs alongside the academic learning, enabling each practitioner to evolve towards a specific field of interest.  Kylie very quickly realised that her passion for this discipline lays in women’s health.

Acupuncture consists in treating the body using natural energies. It is a system of healing within Chinese Medicine that has been practised for thousands of years.  There is no age limit as acupuncture is a safe and gentle way to treat patients of all age groups.

Acupuncture is based on a channel system of 12 main meridians and 8 secondary meridians.  These meridians or “pathways” conduct energy or “Qi” between the surface of the body and the internal organs, muscles & nerve pathways.

“Qi” regulates our spiritual, emotional, mental and physical health.  The balance between these precious elements of ourselves is the key to internal harmony.  When any of these components are out of balance or depleted we experience ill health in it’s many forms.  Acupuncture addresses the imbalance, restoring natural flow and good health to the individual.

Women’s Health

As a practitioner, Kylie’s interest and passion generally lies in women’s health.  Modern life very often does not allow to maintain optimum health and happiness with the ever increasing demands of family, work and life in general.  Our Western, modern lifestyles very often serve to undermine the delicate balance of hormones, menstrual cycle, fertility, conception and ability to carry a healthy pregnancy, post-partum recovery and the natural winding down of our reproductive cycle and menopause.

The philosophy of Chinese medicine and acupuncture enables Kylie to balance, sustain and support these natural cycles, restoring a healthy flow of Qi within, enabling women to achieve good health and cope with the demands of modern life.
